    What is PSPC?

IMO PSPC is the abbreviation of "Performance Standards for Protective Coatings for Seawater Ballast Tanks and Double Sides of Bulk Carriers for All Types of Ships". It was adopted at the 82nd session of MSC in December 2006, and the mandatory standards for international navigation ships with a gross tonnage of 500 tons and above were implemented from July 1, 2008. The first ship in China to comply with this standard was completed and delivered to the Dayang Shipyard in Jiangsu in August 2009.

The PSPC standard has strict requirements for painting and corresponding coatings, and has specific requirements for surface cleanliness, roughness, salt, dust and steel structure edge treatment during primary surface treatment, secondary surface treatment and closed surface treatment; The specific provisions for construction and inspection are also proposed.

The PSPC standard also stipulates specific requirements for the coating for ballast tanks. The coating system must pass the simulated swing tank test and condensation tank test according to the ballast tank conditions required in the annexes of the PSPC standard. In particular, the coating system must pass the approval of a third party, namely the Type Approval Certificate TAC of the Classification Society; At the same time, if the ballast tank coating is used together with the shop primer of other manufacturers, they should also carry out compatibility tests, namely, cross over testing, on the basis of passing the tests and certification required by PSPC.

In order to actively respond to the requirements of PSPC verification test, China timely introduced relevant swing chamber test and condensation chamber test devices (China Norway Technical Center) from Norway. At the same time, CS****C Xiamen 725 Institute has also independently developed swing chamber test and condensation chamber test equipment with independent intellectual property rights, filling the domestic gap.

On the basis of PSPC standard, the national standard GB/T6823-2008 General Technical Conditions for Ship's Ballast Tank Coatings has been revised and implemented in 2008, and its test methods are equivalent to those of PSPC's ballast tank condition simulation swing tank test and condensation tank test. However, the emphasis of the two is different. GB/T 6823 emphasizes the coating system of the ballast water tank, while IMO PSPC emphasizes the control of the coating process of the ship's ballast water tank.

On the basis of the new coating standard PSPC for ballast tanks, IMO PSPC M&R (Coating Maintenance Standard for Ballast Tanks) was also adopted in March 2009. The standard of Coating and Corrosion Protection for Cargo Oil Tanks (PSPCCOT) was formally adopted at the IMO MSC87 meeting on May 19, 2010, and took effect on January 1, 2013.

In order to meet the PSPC standard, GIRET has developed GCM series chamfering machines. After several years of research and development, GIRET has launched GCM-R3T curve chamfering machines, GCM-R3TD double ended steel plate chamfering machines, GCM-4R3-F8 steel plate four edge chamfering machines and GCM-8R3-F8-H steel chamfering machines for H-shaped steel chamfering.

The steel plate chamfering machine produced by GIRET has the following characteristics:

    1. R3 arc chamfer is obtained by cold cutting to remove materials. Compared with the traditional rolling type, this chamfer greatly reduces the processing stress retention, and the paint after coating is more reliable.

    2. Flexible cutting spindle is used to reduce the influence of uneven surface changes on edge processing

    3. Efficient chamfering chamfering from 0 to 6000 mm/min

    4. Reduce labor intensity and processing risk, and chamfering operation can be completed without turning the workpiece when chamfering machine with multiple spindles processes edges.
